Week of October 21-27, 2018

Highlights:

Spiritual

Sunday at church was good, but for me, it was just "one of those Sundays". "Those Sundays" don't happen too often, but sometimes, they do. We arrived at church early, I sat in our regular row as Dad went around and visited, which is totally normal, and I read some of my scriptures. Then, I looked up, and saw everyone talking and visiting, and I was sitting alone. Mind you, this week is not any different from any other week, but I just felt particularly alone. We had nice talks, though mostly a recap of talks from General Conference about the new two-hour church meetings next year and about ministering. Sunday School was good, though I missed so many weeks helping in Primary that I felt lost and behind.  Relief Society discussed a talk from last General Conference, which I had read twice and listened two five times, and yet I did not get the meaning out of the talk that the teacher did. I missed choir practice (for a good reason...and by my choice. We were at Dorrie's visiting with Uncle Loyd, Uncle Tamas and Aunt Kay, and they just got talking about Uncle Robert, how he was killed, the things he did for work and developed - yes, that bottle that allows your water heater to release water when overheated and suck it back in: Uncle Robert McFarland. It just seemed as though this precious piece of family history would have been lost forever if we left, so we stayed). It just was one of those days where I just felt like I wasn't enough, wasn't doing enough, etc. Now, I know these days happen, and I just woke up the next morning and started in doing what I could do. Remember that there will be times you just don't feel like you are enough. Assess yourself, and then if you are doing your best, just keep on doing your best.

Dad attended a session at the temple on Wednesday evening. I didn't have scouts due to Trunk or Treat on Friday. We attended the sealing of our Primary President and her husband and her son, and their son being sealed to them on Saturday morning. His children already sealed to him from a first marriage were able to be there as well. Many family members and over 30 ward members attended.

I am on Ether 12 in the Book of Mormon.

The Wilkins Family

Gracie Marco Polo'd while they were waiting for the missionaries to arrive for dinner on Sunday evening. Their last week was busy with play practices for Grace, soccer practice for Josh, and park playing while waiting. One park visit was particularly exciting as a lost boy was located. They also played at another park on Tuesday afternoon while waiting for Grace. It had a great slide, and Sam discovered a pretty interesting way to go down. Josh was all over it and went up and down with ease. On Tuesday night, Adam had a school presentation, where he performed a piano solo with a dark stage, lit candles on the ground and played the song "Suicide is Painless" from MASH. Dad later told me the whole story with using the candles since he had seen the movie as a kid. Adam played flawlessly and looked and sounded amazing!! Lots of play practice for Grace and park time for Josh and Sam. Adam also created an M.C. Escher Tesselation for school. He said, "A tesselation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps.Can be either square triangle or hexagon.I created mine by cutting parts out of the sides, then translating them onto the opposite side. "

The Ethan Rice Family

Ethan and family had a great last weekend. They went to Southern Belle Farm and enjoyed their day!

Kaylee helped bake and decorate cookies this week. They were very tasty...especially the bat cookies!

The Doran Rice Family

Doran, Amber and family had a good week. Kooper is now a two-wheel bike rider...no training wheels! He has had a couple of pretty rough crashes, but gets right back on the bike and goes again.

Morgan

Morgan had a good week at work.

He and Aimee went fishing on Saturday night and Aimee was rather successful!

She got her hair cut and donated 14 inches to an organization that makes wigs for children with cancer.

Kayty

Kayty had a good week at work. She went to our ward Trunk or Treat with us.

The Nathan Rice Family

Nathan and Jessica and the girls FaceTimed on Sunday. They were surprised as they walked into church that morning to see that Elisabeth Rice and family were listed on the program. There are only two children in Primary, but they still had a Primary Program of sorts, and Anna was very eager to answer questions and share how her family teaches her about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The family is doing well. They are trying to make so many decisions about their future, moving, etc. that things change frequently. Jessica is still feeling pretty well, though queasy. Nathan had a rough Tuesday. He came down with a doozy of a stomach virus that had him in the bathroom at school, causing him to be 40 minutes late to physics class, and then he missed work, went home with constant vomiting and stomach cramps, received a priesthood blessing from his ministering brethren (also brought in dinner for the family and some ice cream), and then went to the doctor to make sure it was nothing more serious and to receive meds for the cramping. He slept on the floor that night and then was able to keep down water and crackers on Wednesday. He spent the week studying, testing, working, and preparing for a flight down on Sunday night. 

Dad's Garden

Dad's garden is doing well and is proving still to be tasty. More plants are eaten and at least two more rabbits captured and relocated. 

Other highlights

Rain. October has been amazing for us this year. We had a small rain early Sunday, early Monday, and a pretty good downpour on Tuesday evening.

My dental checkup and cleaning went well. No cavities this time!

Dad worked Wednesday at the Honeywell Sky Harbor Sight and participated in a Kaizen event.

Nano decided with her vision problems, it would be best to move to the house of someone in her ward who has an assisted living house. She had selected her bedroom and seemed very happy about her decision. I will still go down on Thursdays to take her out to pick up anything she needs, and she will keep the house still for a while.

Dad subbed a fourth-grade class on Friday.

Whack A Deacon game

I thought it was cool to see the Angel Moroni on the temple in the background of trick or treating families. 

Night was good, though many were gone at the big Sandra Day O'Connor/Mtn Ridge Football game.
