Week of November 18-24, 2018

Highlights:

Spiritual
We were all ready for church and thought Kayty was doing well. I went in to say goodbye and she didn't seem right. Two minutes later, she was having seizures. Two Hershey kisses and a little Sprite got them stopped, but I wasn't comfortable leaving her alone for at least an hour, so my morning was spent listening to Christmas music on the CD player and Dad went to church to hand out Smarties and then taught the Deacon's Quorum in the last hour. Dad said the choir sounded amazing and the talks were wonderful. He was so kind to take notes for me to perhaps share with my inmate sister. Joanna, my past visiting teacher, also took notes for me. I was so thankful they cared so much for Jessica. She is struggling and has gotten hooked up with someone in prison and has made some bad choices. She has missed Sunday church and addiction recovery classes as well. I pray a lot for her and try to mail more to her. Choir practice on Sunday was great as we focused on our Christmas music.

No scouts for either of us this week, nor did we attend the temple.

I have indexed 19663 records and reviewed 61035 records so far this year.

I am in Alma 27 in the Book of Mormon.

Family

The Wilkins Family
Grace contacted me via Marco Polo on Sunday night, so her beautiful piano music greeted me on Monday morning as I exercised. She shared a piano piece plus the music she will be singing in her school Christmas program. The had their first fire of the year in their fireplace.
They went to the Children's Museum this week, and Sam shared with me lots of fun there. He is doing great in his swimming lessons and can float on his back now! They shared their Thanksgiving Meal at a friend's house and had a wonderful time.

The Ethan Rice Family
Ethan and Cameo had a good week. Kaylee lost her first teeth...

and shared Thanksgiving dinner with friends.

The Doran Rice Family
Great week for this family! Kelsie achieved third place in the spelling bee.

They all worked at work, with their dogs and spent Friday decorating their house

while Kelsie learned how to hit a softball and Kooper played in the yard.

Morgan
Morgan had a good week and a good Thanksgiving.

Kayty
Kayty had a short but good week. She did a little Thanksgiving shopping at WalMart for inexpensive DVDs and shared "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" (the good one...the original one that I saw as a little kid) on Friday evening.

Major seizure save twice Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, minor give sugar before seizure save on Thursday, and close calls on Friday.

The Nathan Rice Family
On Monday, Nathan attended his physics class, Jessica went to her doctors appointment, and then set out on their journey to Phoenix. They stayed in a hotel in Lehi Utah (compliments of Honeywell, who also paid for their rental car) and then arrived in Phoenix to share fun with Jessica's family on Tuesday and then to our house to spend the nighttimes. On Wednesday morning, Nathan interviewed for a position at Honeywell and then they took him out to lunch. The liked him and HR will be presenting him an offer in the near future. He worked on physics homework and his Senior team project during the time here. Jessica and the kids had great visits with her family. Anna was able to ride her horse that Grammy Laurie got with her in mind. She love it. Ellie, on the other hand, did not. She was able to play with Papa Ron, Uncle Josh and Aunt CeeCee and had such fun.  They even got to see a neighbor's tortoise. Ellie spent a lot of time growling at Grammy Laurie's dogs. (In fact, the only animal she seemed to tolerate was Lily, and Lily was nearly unseen the entire visit. They visited a friend of Jessica's on Friday evening, and then arose early Saturday morning to set out on their trip home, first visiting quickly with Grammy Laurie and Papa Ron. Hopefully, this will be there last 16 hour drive to cold and snow for awhile.

Dad's Garden
Garden is growing. Dad found roots from neighbor's trees in our garden, which is causing some of our tomatoes to demand a lot of water. Turnips, carrots, cabbage and peas are doing well and he is waiting for the many tomatoes to turn red.

Other highlights
Thanksgiving prep began on Saturday making and freezing gravy. I made carrot and celery sticks, pureed cranberries and sugar, and two cheese balls on Monday. Tuesday I made the fun kids items and got the room ready for Nathan and Jessica.

Dad smoked a turkey on Tuesday.

Nathan and family arrived Tuesday evening.

Wednesday, I first headed to Costco to get the pumpkin pie and the rolls...Pie was success, but they ran out of rolls the day before! I ended up getting some at Smart and Final. Next year either my own rolls or Rhodes. Dad did a TON of work, including cleaning up the yard and porch, setting up the tables on Wednesday night, and then I put out tablecloths, and got the crockpots all lined up. Thursday morning included lots of work while I watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade...first the frozen gravy went into one crockpot. Next, I  got the stuffing mixed and in the crockpot cooking, then got a turkey on and roasting. Dad peeled potatoes, and after I boiled them and got the butter/cream mixture ready, Kayty spooned, Dad riced them, and I kept mixing with the creamy liquid. That went in another crockpot and then I cooked the macaroni and cheese...a la Velveeta. Definately not as good as Cameo's homemade but still good. I then whipped the cream and mixed in marshmallows for cranberry salad, set the tables, put out the kids treats, made up the turkey veggie tray and turkey cheese ball, and finished putting it all together.

My favorite part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Santa Claus!!

My turkey veggie tray. I though I got a pic of the turkey cheeseball, but I guess I didn't.

Nathan, Jessica, Anna and Ellie shared Thanksgiving lunch with her family and then joined us.

My special Thanksgiving dessert for the kids. Ice cream turkey sundaes. I didn't get a pic of the absolutely scrumpious pecan pies that Nathan made.

The next day, family came after Black Friday sales and decorating for pizza...

The sister missionaries also stopped by for some pizza.

It was a ton of work but a ton of joy sharing with our family here. We surely missed those that couldn't be here!!! Some things didn't work out, but that ended up being a blessing and now I am spending time writing details of what I made and how much I made of it.

Nano is well and shared Thanksgiving at her friend, Kathy Hays' home.

We went and saw the lighting of this at a family in our ward's home...
This is only a side of this. I will post more next week.
