Week of May 30 through June 5, 2016

Highlights:

Spiritual
I began my Wednesday morning early at the Phoenix Temple. It was so nice to attend that early morning session and the sisters that serve in the temple are so wonderful. One sister knows my name, and I only come every other week! Dad attended his regular Wednesday evening session and enjoyed it.

Cub Scouts was all ready to go, until we received a message that we could not be in the building due to a scheduled wedding. The building scheduler said that weddings and funerals take priority, but that our stake president would have to be consulted before Young Mens, Young Womens, Activity Days and Cub Scouts all would be cancelled for two wards. Later, Bishop Day, Angie's husband checked the handbook: funerals only supersede all.

Sunday, I helped with a very active Sunbeam class during their lesson time. There were actually only six bodies in the room, but it seemed like 66! Very active little boys and girls!

I read the entire Ensign Magazine for June this week. I really enjoyed the article "Vienna Jaques: Woman of Faith". What an amazing lady this was. She was strong and valiant and even into her 90's was milking cows, churning butter, taking care of the yards.

I am in Alma 27 in the Book of Mormon.

So far this year, I have indexed 11698 records in the indexing program.

Family

The Wilkins Family
Happy Birthday to Mike on Tuesday!! I saw that Mike's Mom, Kathy, came up to Vegas for a visit and I am sure the family enjoyed time with her!!

We are so excited for the surprises that are occurring in this family. First a new baby coming in early December...

Ethan, Cameo and Kaylee with Michelle, a dear friend of Cameo's. and a nurse at her obstetrician's office who was the only one who knew the secret...

Blue Balloons...It's a Boy!

We were so glad for the happy news. The other news is that they are transferring to Atlanta Georgia for a job Ethan got at Home Depot. It was too wonderful an opportunity for them to pass up! Ethan needs to be there at the end of June, and Cameo and Kaylee will join as soon as her job transfer goes through (the company she works for is headquartered in Atlanta) The last few weeks have been full of putting in floors, painting, getting new carpet, cleaning skylights, planting flowers, raking granite, putting in ceramic tile, and a ton of other stuff! Wade was the superhero for the family! The house has already had one appraisal completed and the other will happen on Monday of next week. The movers have come to assess how much will need to be packed and moved. They pack everything...even the clothing! They headed to Wet n Wild on Saturday afternoon. Preschool had a few glitches this week so maybe next week.

The Doran Rice Family
Doran got a programmable thermostat from OfferUp and is programming to install it. Doran had a "not bad" week at work, doing his promoted work and training his replacement. They had a great evening with their neighbors on Saturday night. Sunday, Jurassic Park and the T-Rex was totally being enjoyed by Kooper, but poor Amber's head felt like the t-rex was inside it. Headaches are the worst!! Feel better, Amber!

Morgan
Morgan and Christy had busy work weeks, and got some new tools at an outlet store Doran told them about.

Kayty
Kayty attended Family Home Evening, which she referred to as 'lame' since the sports activities only involved a frisby. She also attended Bachelor/Bachelorette (not sure which) later than night. She started back to work on Tuesday. She had good days and liked being back. She went for a few hours to Comi-Con and had a great time

and then went on a date that ended up being really odd but he paid so that was good. She worked Sunday.

Total saves this week: 7 (2 saves on Thursday - I just couldn't keep her glucose up and I was literally in prayer and tears)

The Nathan Rice Family
Nathan is very busy with school work. Jessica was going to come down later in June, but due to her father's accident, she moved her trip to Phoenix to Thursday and I was able to go to the airport to get her and Miss Annalee. They came on Friday to pick up the high chair to use while they are in town. Annalee is growing so tall! She is nearly all legs!! She has beautiful long eyelashes...very unusual for a female. I brought out a couple of toys and she played and then was trying to discover how they worked. She is Nathan's daughter. I talked to him Friday on the phone and he misses them so much already. He has a neighbor who likes jeeps and trucks and is an engineering major...and his wife is out of town, so he should have something to do in the moments he isn't doing homework or studying for a test.

Work
Dad had Monday off, and started in with meetings throughout the week. He attended a meeting for an SDE who is out injured on Wednesday. He is working with the SDE's he is responsible for to get them to complete the tasks for individual savings at suppliers. It has been more than a challenge and he has spent hours late after work talking with an engineer trying to get them through each "gate" of the spreadsheet. Dad needed a new pic for work, so we quickly took some...

My work week included lots of laundry, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, canning 7 quarts of tomatoes, making two months worth of menus, cleaning out a cupboard, brushing the pool, working on cleaning up the porch, and helping dad in all the projects he has.

Dad's Garden
The heat is on! Tomatoes were on their last leg this week. Pickings were slim.

2016 tomato total: 471 picked.

We had to cover the peppers with shade cloth on Wednesday.

The grapes are actually looking awesome and we will be eating some great ones, especially out by the chicken pen.

Basil is flourishing and six meals of pesto were bagged and frozen on Saturday.

Dad has dried and ground up peppers for Ethan to take with him when he heads out to the South.

Dad's Truck
No truck work this week.

Year of the House
I wanted to replace the door between the family room and kitchen without removing the trim, so Dad got tools together and actually figured out how to make our wonky door jams work!

He ended up replacing the door between the kitchen and sewing room, painting and installing a handle on the door in the entryway, and replacing the door in the hallway to the water heater closet, and the towel/medicine closet.

Other highlights
Cameo texted us on Saturday afternoon and invited us over for a movie.

Jessica and Annalee were there for awhile too,

though Annalee was still adjusting to a new place so she was very tired and Jessica took her home to go to bed.

Lots of veggies made for a great ham fried rice stir fry on Sunday! Frozen ham bits, yellow squash, fresh bell pepper, carrots, celery, and garden garlic.

Not so highlights
Early heat. We went from last Saturday at 97 degrees, to the next Saturday hitting a record 115 degrees. Now, our back porch high was 108, but that concerns me because our last Summer back porch heat record was 109. It's gonna be a long summer!
