Week of August 25 - 31, 2019

Highlights:

Spiritual
We had a lovely Sunday. One of many new families in our ward spoke about receiving revelation in various ways: through prayer, service, scripture reading. I enjoyed a great Relief Society lesson and Dad attended Elders Quorum for the first time in many years.

Dad took time off work but it was molten lava hot outside, so he performed temple ordinances on both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and Wednesday evening. I was such a sweaty hot mess that I was afraid I would not end up being well, so I stayed home those days till I could get rehydrated. We both went on Saturday morning and performed sealing ordinances.

My co-leader, Angie, has had many worsening health problems, so she is being released from her calling. Hilda, my co-leader from the other ward, is out of town all of September. So, I spent a couple of hours preparing for scouts next week and Dad will help me out.

I continue to listen to Conference talks, read the September Ensign Magazine and the Book of Mormon every day.

The church site was down on Saturday so I couldn't index or review. So far this year, I have indexed 16361 records and reviewed 39245 records so far this year.

Family

The Wilkins Family
Adam was a superhero and Marco Polo-ed us on Sunday. The kids are doing well and Sam gave a scripture in Primary that day. Grace seems to be loving everything as usual. It's so nice of Adam to take time to do this!

Happy Birthday to Grace on Friday!! She is now an official teenager!

The Ethan Rice Family
This family had a busy last weekend! On Friday night, they attended drag races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. When I spoke with them later in the week, all Wade could talk about was the tow truck that came out to get a crashed car. On Saturday, they attended a Cops Day event in Hampton with their friends, the Adairs. Wade loved the bounce houses there. They also spent Sunday with the Adairs playing at a park, hiking, swimming and having a great time.

Ethan is enjoying his new position at work. He said it was really nice to NOT get called and messaged all weekend while they were with their friends. Cameo is working now from 8 am to 2 pm and it is working out well. Wade is really good playing while she works. Kaylee has another loose tooth that is nearly ready to come out.

Kaylee lost that front tooth on Thursday at school. Yes, she went to the nurse and got one of those cool tooth necklaces to bring it home in. That item was always wanted by my kids but no one ever got one.

The Doran Rice Family
Kelsie's week began with a shopping trip with Aunt Tamara to the mall. Kooper figured out one morning that this school thing was not just temporary, and it made for a difficult school drop off for Amber. Dad ended up Substituting on Thursday at their school, so he took the kids to school, getting doughnuts on the way at QT and then stopping for a burger on the way home. We celebrated Kelsie's 12th Birthday on Saturday.

Morgan
Morgan is doing well.

Kayty
Kayty had a good week at work. She dressed up in a Georgetown Tshirt she got back in Washington DC for college day at work, got off a couple of hours early on Friday, and spent Saturday driving out to Apache Junction to buy more insulin and get a picture that inspired her to paint some of her room next week so she got a gallon of paint too.

One major save on Saturday morning.

The Nathan Rice Family
Nathan, Jessica, Anna, Ellie, and Emma visited us on Sunday evening. Anna and I played in the playroom, with Emma joining us for a bit (Ellie was asleep on Daddy's shoulder). Tuesday was Ellie's second birthday. Nathan took the day off work and they used their Wildlife World Zoo Season Passes the received from Jessica's mom and dad for a zoo trip. That night, we celebrated Ellie's birthday with family, great cake and yummy cookies.

They had a good week since Nathan didn't have to work 12 hour days. Emma even got to participate in Sister Play Time this week.

They came by for a visit on Friday and ended up leaving all three girls with us so they could grab something to eat. The girls were great and loved sitting on Papa's lap while he read books to them, and Emma liked to talk to me.

Dad's Garden
Palm trees are amazingly surviving the heat.

Other highlights

Monday was Dad's work health assessment which included bloodwork. I cleaned for a bit and then took Nano to her neurologist appointment. I was NOT impressed with him at all! By the things he asked, I don't think he has much experience with Alzheimers, though Nano thinks he's a saint. Ugh.

Our new homeowner's insurance didn't like our roof lack of repair, so after being turned down by many roofers including Curtis, we had to do it ourselves. It took two hot mornings of work, but the repair was completed.

Dad and I worked on the roof for two days and got the job done...

Just in time for a rare this year Monsoon storm full of thunder and lightning and lots of rain. Roof did fine and it was nice to get rain again.

Nano's birthday was Thursday, and Scott had made arrangements for as many of us as could to meet at Manuel's Mexican Food Restaurant and surprise Mom for dinner. She didn't seem that surprised (I don't think she even recognized Kayty or Dad) but she enjoyed herself.
