Week of December 9-15, 2018

Highlights:

Spiritual
Sunday was good. We enjoyed a newly returned missionary speak in Sacrament Meeting. I was able to visit with Yvonne, who I have as a ministering sister but I have known for years, between classes. In classes we discussed the Home Centered Church Supported curriculum.

Dad had a yearly planning meeting for the youth, and I had an early choir practice. My cub scouts was cancelled since Sister Day woke up sick and she was responsible for the meeting activities. Dad attended his scout meeting.

The temple is again closed this week.

I am in 3 Nephi 13 in the Book of Mormon, which was past where I was when President Nelson challenged the sisters to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year at October General Conference. I did it! I have been reading the December Ensign Magazine little by little.

I have indexed 21964 records and reviewed 63137 record so far this year.

Family

The Wilkins Family
This was a good week, but a very busy one. We enjoyed a video of Josh reciting his monthly poem in his class and he did a fantastic job! For a fun activity, the family gathered to write letters to Santa.

Adam

Josh

Sam
They also got a chance to see the Winter Laser Light Show at Sam's Town
Grace performed this week at school and did a lovely job.

Sadly, Adam's bicycle that Dad had some extra parts for so Adam could fix up last Saturday was stolen.

The Ethan Rice Family
Ethan and Cameo and the kids attended a special event at Wade's school last weekend.

And Wade continues his campaign to give his parents a head full of grey hair.

Thursday was Ethan's birthday! Happy Birthday, Ethan! Kaylee was a great helper stirring the icing for the Germann Chocolate Cake...a thankless and very tiring job!
Cameo sent me a finished pic of the cake. Masterful, as always!

We spoke via FaceTime on Friday and he had a good day and was looking forward to using his new sander. Kaylee also got him a flying ball thing...they all love it!

The Doran Rice Family
Doran, Amber and family had a good week, sprinkled with some pretty fierce challenges. They are surviving and doing well.

Morgan
Morgan, Aimee and Emileigh spent the weekend making their home Christmas ready.

Emileigh participated in a school Christmas program.

Kayty
Kayty's job is still up in the air, though she has worked and gained much proficiency and accuracy so her work does not need to be gone over. Some long time employees still have to have their work checked. No news on the permanence of it and she came home very upset that her name was not active and she couldn't sign the hours she had worked. Her temp service employer assured her it was just a system glitch.

Major save with seizure on Monday and Thursday. Minor save on Saturday.

The Nathan Rice Family
We spoke with Nathan and Jessica on Sunday. Nathan worked all day till midnight on projects and homework, and began again early Monday. Last full week of school. He even has a final on his actual graduation day. Anna was happy and full of energy: a difficult combination for a three year old who cannot go outdoors due to the cold, so she wanted to put a hex on Daddy with her wand, which had earlier been weaponized and was put in a safe place. Where did she learn to put a hex on someone with a wand??? Anyway, she decided to be helpful and feed her sister...
Nathan said he did get four slices from that loaf of bread. This week, Nathan's final undergraduate week, was a killer: papers, tests, classes, over 33 hours of machining the group Capstone project, pretty much doing most of the capstone project (one of the team was a great help, and a great welder) and living on Little Caesars Pizza. The team let these two men down by not doing the report and video presentation while they were doing all this work but Nathan managed to get through and will splice the video himself to turn in by Tuesday. Now for more study and two Physics tests and then graduation. Meanwhile, Jessica cared for the girls and packed up a lot of memories.

Dad's Garden
Dad picked the first tomatoes this week. They could have stayed on the vine for a few more days but we were terrified the birds would find them first. He also ate a beet and a turnip.

Other highlights
Dad went Monday to the Deer Valley Honeywell Plant to locate his new home as of January 2, 2019 (no...not living there...just working there).

Love my jogs in December! The kind people that leave their Christmas lights on all night just make my day (very early day)!

I decorated cookies I baked last week. I am still learning, but I think I am getting better at it.

I attended Randy Kohlhase's funeral on Wednesday. I sat five rows behind former Governor Jan Brewer. Governor Doug Ducey was two rows in front of her, and as I left the building, I saw him personally stop and speak to each family member, to embrace and support. The children each shared their stories about their amazing dad. Friends and former coworkers did the same. The room was full of people, each with a story, an experience. And yet, perhaps due to medication he was on, or something that he found, or something said, for a split second, a week ago, he decided his life was worth nothing to himself or anyone else, and so he ended it. He was an awesome Dad and Grandfather, a great son and brother, he served on the security detail for three governors, he was lauded by coworkers, and yet, for that moment a week ago, he didn't see any of that. We are all worth it, and we all matter. Our lives are important. Our lives matter to many. I just was so sad to think that someone who was loved so much, yet thought he was loved so little. So it goes with all of us.

I worked on decorating cookies this week. Getting the colors I wanted was a challenge but I am getting more of the hang of it.

On Thursday evening, we attended a party for adults called Neck and Nog. I took the snowflake and blue tree cookies. There were lots of yummy things to eat and lots of people to talk to. I didn't have eggnog, not a fan, but it was a fun night.

Ward Christmas Party was Saturday morning. It was a Polar Express theme, and we were invited to come in our pajamas...did't happen. The tables were full of gingerbread trains and decorations. We had jazz group playing music, and later, we sang Christmas songs and then Santa came.
