Week of April 22-28, 2018

Highlights:

Spiritual
Sunday was a good day. We had early choir practice and then stake conference, which was all very good. Every talk centered on Heavenly Father's love for each of us, and our ministering to the needs of others.

Dad attended Self Reliance class in the early afternoon. The rest of the day was quiet.

I completed reading all the General Conference talks and continue to listen to one each day as I exercise.

I had pack meeting on Tuesday. Short. Boring. The cubmaster, instead of giving a Cubmaster Minute, lectures for the first thirty minutes of every pack meeting. It's on one of the scout laws, but its very long, and usually boring. The boys got their awards, and it was over. No fun activity. No wonder not many come.

Indexing was not available until later in the week, so I reviewed records. I have indexed 10, 916 records and reviewed 1340 records so far this year.

I am in Alma 10 in the Book of Mormon. I continue to listen to a General Conference talk every morning as I exercise and am on the Sunday afternoon session now.

Family

The Wilkins Family
Wilkins family had a good and busy week. Grace tried out and was given parts in an upcoming musica presentation at school. The boys and Mike went on the Priesthood Commemoration Campout on Friday night. Allison and Grace had a great girl's night at home, with manicures and movies and marvelous morsels to munch on!

The Ethan Rice Family
Happy Anniversary on Sunday to this family!

Last Saturday, they went fishing at High Falls Park.

I talked to the family on Monday night. They were concerned about Wade, since on this fishing trip, he had eaten a worm...a real one...and he woke up feverish on Monday morning, but he was happy and throwing his yellow whiffle ball. Kaylee showed me out on the deck the rain pouring down. It was beautiful. Wade struggled with tummy troubles all week...lots of throwing up and dry heaves. Poor kiddo!!

They had added a new family member this week...
Ruger: a two year old English Labrador Retriever.

The Doran Rice Family
Doran worked on and built a pretty awesome camping kitchen.
We enjoyed them coming over Saturday and swimming with us.

Morgan
Morgan is doing well, though he also struggled with illness this week. He has at least one job lined up.

Kayty
Kayty had a good work week. Spent her off time watching television.

One major save on Saturday morning this week.

The Nathan Rice Family
They shared some pics from their last Saturday's adventures.

Nathan's first day of his next to the last semester went well. He likes all his classes and, though it will be a lot of work, he feels it will be a great semester. Jessica started her final class, final semester on Tuesday. Nathan's lab and Jessica's class overlap by an hour, so friends are taking turns caring for Anna and Ellie.  He had to work on the Saturn this week, and they took a nice test drive to Pocatello on Saturday, had lunch out, and went fishing. Nathan and Jessica both like school and Nathan and a team already have a project completed for presentation on Monday.

Dad's Garden
We are again concerned about the tomato plants. They were growing beautifully, but seem to be struggling. There seems to be a fungus bothering them, again. The reason we planted celebrity tomatoes was that they were more disease resistant. We got the wrong tomatoes...and apparently little disease resistance. We may just be purchasing canned tomatoes this year.

Year of the House Part 2
Floor is sealed, walls are sealed. Shower works. Toilet is set. First showers were taken. I am deeming the Year of the House Part 2 over! Just a couple of touch up spots in the shower and a little work texturing the ceiling, and putting in a new exhaust fan, but that will come when it comes.

I recovered the counter stools in the kitchen/family room.

I received and assembled (with Dad's help) my new "Stocking Shelves" for our bedroom.

Other highlights
Dad's old friend Cliff Eccles called very late Sunday night (very odd since Cliff is an early to bed kinda guy) and they talked for over two hours.

We got a lot of work in the yard done on Monday and Thursday, and also went and cut up a dead mesquite tree thrown out in the neighborhood for firewood.

This cactus...normally we get a blossom or two...NEVER this many!!!

We "celebrated" 38 years of marriage on Tuesday. Dad worked, saw suppliers. I cooked, cleaned. We cleaned up the back yard. I went to pack meeting. We assembled one of my shelving units. Dad was on the computer. I cleaned the kitchen. Just a normal day, like the days we have shared for 38 years.

I took Nano to the doctor on Friday afternoon, then went shopping and to the bank.

Not so highlights
It has been another very difficult week with teachers marching and striking. I had been in total support of a pay increase, but this current condition we have in our country where marching, protesting and yelling are considered being a good citizen has me very perplexed and concerned. Our country is based on a representative government, not mob rule. We elect legislators who in turn make laws and determine budgets according to law and available money. I have written to one of our local senators twice this week, and Dad wrote once. She was more than willing to speak with us, and even gave me her personal phone number. Responsible citizens call, write, email their concerns to their elected government representatives. Many teachers are setting a poor example, though not all. One person that teaches, spent her day at the Phoenix Temple. Others at Charter Schools determined that their students meant more. Dad felt impressed to contact one charter school and helped out there, since parents have to make arrangements for their kids when not in school, and Painted Rock Academy sits in the middle of a lower middle class neighborhood. Nathan's old high school, North Pointe Prep, held regular classes as did many other charter schools. The feelings being expressed have become nothing but contention, and it is found everywhere. Sadly, I don't see an end to this.
