Week of September 30-October 6, 2018

Highlights:

Spiritual
We had a wonderful Sunday. We had Fast and Testimony Meeting and heard many inspiring words. I attended ward choir practice and then stake conference choir practice later that evening.

Dad and I taught a Primary Class for a sister I minister to and I sat with them in sharing time while he went to Deacon's Quorum. My cub scouts started out fine but then went absolutely crazy (one boy...enough said) but three worked very hard and we completed our service project.

Dad then went with his scouts to serve a family in the ward by digging up their garden.

I attended a full, and very wet (outdoors) session at the temple on Tuesday morning.

Dad attended a session on Thursday evening.

We watched General Conference on Saturday morning. It seems rumors were true and beginning in 2019 our Sunday meetings will total two hours rather than three. I loved Elder Bednar's and Elder Oaks talks and I will surely print them up and study them as I also listen and read during the next six months. afternoon sessions and then I sat and watched the Women's session in the evening. I am signing off FaceBook and Instagram for a 10 day fast starting tomorrow as President Nelson asked. I already read the Book of Mormon every day, but will mark scriptures referring to the Savior. I wil

I am in 3 Nephi 9 in the Book of Mormon.

I have indexed 15162 records and reviewed 53991 records so far this year.

Family

The Wilkins Family

The Ethan Rice Family
This family is doing well. Ethan's new job requires a lot of driving, but he gets to use a company provided vehicle and he is enjoying the new challenge. Kaylee and Wade had a good school week,

And I received a surprise in the mail from Kaylee.

We Facetimed on Friday night...Cameo gave me a tour of their Halloween decorations...she and Ethan have done a fabulous job! A ghost travels across the ceiling in the main family room, bugs are crawling on the dining room wall, the front yard looks wonderful and somewhat scary, and there are awesome lights everywhere, inside and out. Kaylee worked on a spider project as we talked, and Wade played with Ruger and threw a playdough ball back and forth to Ethan.

The Doran Rice Family
Doran's car was in the shop all week getting the rack and pinyon repaired, plus they fixed a few other things. So glad they got the warranty...$250 was well worth it. Kooper and Doran came by to pick up Dad after Conference and they went out to eat and went fishing.

Morgan
Morgan is doing well and enjoying his new job. He prepared for a new culinary treat on Saturday...Dad's favorite! Boiled Peanuts!!

Kayty
Kayty had a good week at work. Still hoping for a permanent job here or somewhere.

The Nathan Rice Family
On Sunday, Anna showed us her new shoes. They had originally planned on some plain athletic type shoes, but since Anna had some extra birthday money, she was able to purchase pink princess shoes with Disney princesses on the side...and the ability to light up, which she stood on a chair to show us via FaceTime. We spoke briefly on Friday night as the girls were making caramel apples. Ellie was full of smiles and Anna was carefully adding M&Ms to the caramel. On Saturday morning, they watched General Conference, though Ellie loved being on the computer keyboard!
Yes...that box is not going to stop this girl from any electronic device...especially a keyboard of wonders! Standing on her birthday car!
Dad's Garden
Lots of planting, finding out critters had feasted, netting, replanting, thinning. Lots of nasty rabbits eating everything...not enough fencing to protect everything, so traps were set up.

Other highlights
Halloween Decorations went up on our very humid, very cloudy Monday morning.

Awesome rain on Tuesday...we received nearly three inches of rain, thanks to Hurricane Rosa remnants.

Great morning jogs...(well, Monday it sprinkled long enough to get me pretty wet, Tuesday it started raining hard so I was soaked, Wednesday, the humidity was awful - 92 percent but I ran and sweated a lot, and then the remaining days were cooler and cooler.)

A wonderful (and extremely rare for Facebook) quote was shared with me...

Prayer is a key. Pray to know what to stop doing and what to start doing. Pray to know what to add to your environment and what to remove so the Spirit can be with you in abundance.
Plead with the Lord for the gift of discernment. Then live and work to be worthy to receive that gift so that when confusing events arise in the world, you will know exactly what is true and what is not.
Serve with love. Loving service to those who have lost their way or who are wounded in spirit opens your heart to personal revelation.
Spend more time—much more time—in places where the Spirit is present. That means more time with friends who are seeking to have the Spirit with them. Spend more time on your knees in prayer, more time in the scriptures, more time in family history work, more time in the temple. I promise you that as you consistently give the Lord a generous portion of your time, He will multiply the remainder.

Russell M. Nelson
