Week of July 18 - 24, 2016

Highlights:

Spiritual
I started my day on Wednesday in the first session of the day at the Phoenix Temple. Dad attended the final session of Wednesday.

Cub Scouts went great on Wednesday! The boys worked on their service project: sleeping blankets for Daniel, and Daniel even was able to come and meet the boys!

He was very shy at first, but soon warmed up and was talking up a storm and showing the boys a game on the phone.

I went visiting teaching on Wednesday morning and saw one of our sisters, and texted the other sister in Flagstaff, who was enduring 78 degree temps while we were enduring 107 degree temps! Dad went home teaching on Sunday afternoon.

We had a wonderful sacrament meeting full of very spiritual experiences that were had at the trek, by youth and adult alike. It was such a testimony to me of just how much the Lord is in charge and will create good, uplifting experiences out of what seem to be mishaps.

In the scriptures, I am in Ether 2.

I have indexed  19282  records so far this year.

Family

The Wilkins Family
I was able to talk back and forth with Grace during the week, and Dad talked to Allison on the phone on Tuesday night. Pokemon Go gives this family LOTS of good exercise!!

There were doctor appointments during the week as well.
On Friday, they prepared for their ward party the next day, celebrating Pioneer Day. They were making rock candy and Mike was planning a huge meal using his dutch ovens.

Josh lost his first tooth this week.

Sam is working on potty training and is doing a stellar job.
The Ethan Rice Family
Ethan and Cameo had busy work weeks, on opposite ends of the country. Kaylee had a good time with Grampy and Grandma. Cameo and Kaylee went to Wet n Wild with Cameo's family on Saturday

We delivered some things for Ethan to take back to his new home, and Dad talked to him via facetime for a couple seconds. He was working on Saturday. It has been a busy week for him, since someone left their position and he was able to learn their job tasks and take over by coming in a few hours earlier. I am sure the weekends are boring without Cameo and Kaylee, so it's good he has work opportunities to fill the time.

The Doran Rice Family
Doran and Amber ...and Kelsie had a very long and eventful week. As per Amber's message of Friday night:
"She had a staff infection on her leg two weeks ago and we went to Good Night Pediatrics and they gave her an antibiotic. Nine days into the antibiotic, she started getting hives, so we went to the pediatrician and learned that she's allergic to sulfa or Bactrim which is in this antibiotic.l It has gotten completely worse..."

On Friday...
"...We just left the hospital at Estrella. Her reaction to the medicine got worse and she started blistering. They gave her a shot of steroids. They don't know yet if she has Steven Johnson Syndrome. We will know the next two days if she starts getting huge blisters on her body and in her mouth and then we have to go to the county hospital burn unit..."

As of late Sunday, we heard from Amber that the rash seems to be improving and we are so thankful for this great blessing from our Heavenly Father.

Morgan
Morgan started his new job this week and ended up on day shift rather than swing shift, due to his extensive experience. We visited he and Christy on Sunday afternoon and had a good visit. They were just enjoying a quiet day before the work week begins. It was a very long week last week and Sunday truly was a day of rest for them.

Kayty
Kayty had to jump through hoops... and fax machines...and finally got all her paperwork in for her new job. She gave her notice on Thursday and will start at the new job on Monday. Here are pics from her last two days at Jos A Bank

Total saves this week: 2

The Nathan Rice Family
Nathan had a rough beginning of the week...but finals were finally OVER and Wednesday was his first day in forever he didn't have hours of homework to accomplish! He and Jessica took Annalee to a splash pad and she had a good time!

He got his grades back: all A's  so his full scholarship continues. He is one semester away from being in his third year of the program. This family had a tough week with tires...the wear on their 90000 mile tires with 15000 miles on them was uneven, so no warranty and they had to purchase new ones. Nathan may also have an opportunity for a little extra money cleaning carpet before school begins again.

Work
Dad had a busy week, with many supplier problems that needed to be solved. He also found out Monday that there is a 15 percent layoff coming in a couple of weeks and two more furloughs this year. His income is now falling behind, since he had no raise and they lost one week of pay already. I said to go to a headhunter to find a new job. He is working on getting teacher certification. Every layoff, his coworkers have taken early retirement, and there just aren't that many people left. Plenty of work, mind you. Honeywell is a terrible company to work for...and he has worked there for over over 37 years (now that I think about it, his anniversary date is in June and there wasn't even a mention of it!)

My week included hauling weeds, bagging and hauling leaves, cleaning out the old garden bed, hauling needles and mesquite beans out to the pile, raking, laundry, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, powdering tons of eggshells, grocery shopping.

Dad's Garden
It's doggone hot. I picked some peppers, and watered, and picked up many warm eggs from the hen boxes. I was surprised they weren't already hard boiled!

Dad's Truck
No truck work this week.

Year of the House
Dad started on cutting wood for the cabinet he will create over the stove and microwave so we can install an exhaust duct and have it concealed in the cabinet.

Christmas In July
I forgot to include my Christmas in July update last week. I worked on baby Wade's Grammy stocking at least 15 minutes every day that week. I completed twenty five Christmas ornaments. I was able to watch The Santa Clause 1, 2, and 3, as well as Elf.

This week, I worked on baby Wade's Grammy stocking at least 15 minutes every day. I completed twenty five ornaments, which finishes my Christmas ornaments for the year. I watched The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. All my favorites, except for It's A Wonderful Life and that is on television on Christmas Eve. I even was able to see a rerun television show late at night that played their Christmas episode from one year... my favorite one that makes my tear up.

Other highlights
We were invited to dinner by our bishop and his family, who is also our home teacher and my visiting teacher. They included Kayty as well. It was a great time.

We attended the Trek Closing Fireside on Sunday night. It was an inspiring evening with talks of what was learned and how it was accomplished. The greatest thing was the spiritual growth that occurred as these youth and leaders could accomplish hard things with the help of Christ. And it was pointed out over and over that if the Lord was there to help on a pioneer simulation, how much more He is there to help us and strengthen us in our daily real challenges of life.

Not so highlights
Heat...no rain...but that is Summer in Arizona!
